Kai Wieland (he/him)

PRODUCT

If you were Kai, you would have studied at KIT and started your career as a working student at a digital strategy consultancy in Karlsruhe, focusing on regional media houses. After that, youโ€™d have joined the Dutch startup Blendle in Utrecht, helping bring its pay-per-article journalism platform to the German market. Since 2019, youโ€™d be working at Steady, starting out on the Data Team before moving into your current role as a Product Manager.

Youโ€™d be passionate about finding ways to make journalism sustainable, but also love cooking, eating, and checking out supermarkets wherever you travelโ€”youโ€™d be an avid reader and supporter of Supermarktblog. In your free time, youโ€™d enjoy talking about pop music and reminiscing about the days when you organized Horst, a free open-air music festival in your hometown. Youโ€™d also have run a data visualization meetup before the pandemic hit. And as a long-distance cycling fan, your last major tour wouldโ€™ve taken you from Germany through Vienna and Ljubljana, across Italy, and back via Switzerland.

Now, youโ€™d live in Berlin-Wedding and love the city, even though you always said youโ€™d never move to Berlin (haha).

And in case youโ€™re wondering, your name is pronounced /kaษช/ (rhymes with โ€œskyโ€).
